Osborne Clarke has advised Cologne-based sport data analytics company Impect GmbH on its sale to Catapult Sports, a global provider of sports performance technology. The transaction—with a total volume of up to EUR 78 million - reinforces Catapult’s strategy to integrate performance tracking, video analytics and tactical data into a unified intelligence platform, thereby seamlessly connecting scouting, match analysis and decision-making.

Founded in 2014 by former Bundesliga professionals Stefan Reinartz and Jens Hegeler together with Lukas Keppler and Matthias Sienz, IMPECT is regarded as a pioneer in football data analytics. The company is known for its proprietary Packing™ model, which quantifies the effectiveness of passing and positional play. The cloud-based platform delivers tactical insights annually for around 40,000 matches across nearly 150 leagues and is used by over 150 professional clubs in more than 25 countries—for precise scouting, opposition analysis and robust internal benchmarking.

Catapult is financing the acquisition through a capital raising of AUD 150 million. The aim is the rapid integration of IMPECT’s software into Catapult’s Performance and Pro Video suites, to unify data sources, harmonise workflows and deliver tangible efficiency and quality gains for users—from clubs to associations. In short: more context, less friction, better decisions.

“The combination of IMPECT’s comprehensive, tactical data model and Catapult’s global technology and customer reach sets new standards for data-driven football intelligence,” said Benjamin Monheim, Lead Partner at Osborne Clarke. “For our clients, this is not just a strategic step but a catalyst: insights become faster, more precise and more operationally actionable. We are pleased to have supported this cross-border transaction.”

The Osborne Clarke team was led by Dr Benjamin Monheim and included Fenja Striesow, Dr Jana Bertus, Dr Espen Schneider and David Hamala (all Corporate / M&A), Adrian Schneider, Dr Marian Arning, Maximilian Klein, Alven Broschart and Lucie Fassbender (all IP / IT / Data Protection), Nils Wiehmann and Konstantin Axnick (both Employment), Ann-Kristin Lochmann and Patrick Seiler (both Tax), as well as Dr Sebastian Hack and Lea Hauser (both Commercial / Antitrust).
