Established by Osborne Clarke through its #FindTheOrange association, the merit award is presented to the most deserving student enrolled on the Master’s Degree programme in Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence, a joint programme run by the University of Milan, the University of Milan-Bicocca and the University of Pavia.
Student Federico Renzoni received the merit award – now in its second year – at the University of Milan, in the presence of representatives from the university, the #FindTheOrange association and Osborne Clarke.
Prof. Andrea Pinotti, Head of the Department of Philosophy, University of Milan: “The #FindTheOrange initiative demonstrates the value of collaboration between universities and professional organisations committed to promoting inclusive and sustainable innovation. Supporting student talent means investing in the future of research, education and society as a whole. We are particularly pleased that this award is being given to an interdisciplinary programme such as Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence, which addresses the challenges of AI by placing people, rights and the social responsibility of innovation at the centre.”
Prof. Giuseppe Primiero, Chair of the Academic Board of the Master’s Degree Programme in Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence: “The #FindTheOrange Award is a significant recognition for students who have distinguished themselves not only through their academic excellence, but also through their ability to view Artificial Intelligence as a discipline deeply intertwined with the needs of society. Our programme was established precisely with the aim of training professionals capable of combining technical skills, ethical sensitivity and an awareness of the social impact of digital technologies. This award highlights these qualities and encourages a new generation of responsible innovators. We are grateful to Osborne Clarke for their support.”
Federico Renzoni, winner of the #FindTheOrange Merit Award: “"First of all, I would like to thank Osborne Clarke for giving me the opportunity, through the #FindTheOrange merit award, to act as a spokesperson – in my own small way – for all the students who, every day, devote their time with passion and care to studying and learning the subjects of the future: 'I want everyone […] to know that you could be next... Because anyone from anywhere can do anything' (Tyler Joseph, 2017). I like to think that this award reflects the confidence that Osborne Clarke, and numerous other firms, have in young talent capable of bringing cutting-edge expertise to the fields of artificial intelligence and new technologies. Receiving this award is a great honour for me, as it marks the culmination of my academic journey and holds the promise that I will be able to translate my wealth of expertise into concrete solutions, strategies and visions capable of placing human beings at the centre of this new digital paradigm in the future".
A statement from the co-managing partners of Osborne Clarke and from Nunzia Melaccio, Partner at Osborne Clarke and Chair of #FindTheOrange: “We are proud to announce the second edition of the #FindTheOrange Merit Award and to present it today to Federico Renzoni. Through this award, we aim to support young people who choose to put their technological skills at the service of people and society, whilst remaining true to the humanistic values that drive major transformations. As a law firm committed to innovation, we believe in building an ecosystem in which law, technology and education engage in constructive dialogue. We extend our warmest congratulations to Federico Renzoni.”
The ceremony concluded with a chance to socialise and discuss the future prospects of artificial intelligence and its impact on society. Further information on the course: Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence
