Dr Sebastian Lilje
Dr Sebastian Lilje advises national and international companies on all aspects of individual and collective employment law.
As a certified specialist in employment law, his practice focuses on the strategic handling of complex employment law issues – ranging from corporate restructurings and transactions through to employment litigation.
His expertise includes advising on reorganisations, workforce reductions and works council negotiations, as well as drafting employment and managing director service agreements, negotiating termination and settlement agreements, and advising on business transfers and co-determination matters. Sebastian Lilje has particular know-how in occupational pension and social security law, including the review and replacement of pension schemes and the employment law aspects of pension liabilities in the context of corporate sales and insolvency.
In the transactional arena, Sebastian Lilje is experienced in conducting employment law due diligence, drafting SPA/APA documentation, implementing post-closing measures and managing leadership changes. He also advises at the interface with IT and data protection law, for example on works council agreements relating to IT systems, GDPR access requests and non-compete obligations.
Sebastian Lilje is closely integrated into the firm’s international network and regularly advises on cross-border restructurings, global HR policies and the market entry of international companies into Germany. He has a particular sector focus on life sciences and healthcare, with expertise in profession-specific regulatory issues, working time arrangements in 24/7 operations, the international competition for skilled workers, as well as pay transparency and equal pay.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced companies to embrace digitalization at top speed. The associated innovations will last beyond the end of the pandemic. Creative working (time) models will therefore continue to be in demand in the future to enable flexible, mobile working and simultaneously meet the legal requirements. Furthermore, the increasing use of IT in the workplace must be legally accompanied. In addition to day-to-day business, I strongly support our clients primarily with strategic advice on the future of work.
