BTG Legal, a relationship firm of international legal practice Osborne Clarke, has opened a new office in Bangalore.

Referred to as the ‘Silicon Valley of India,’ Bangalore is often seen as a Venture Capital (VC) Private Equity (PE) hotspot in India. Opening in the city will give BTG Legal the opportunity to further target the Tech, media and comms sector whilst expanding its footprint.

The office launches with the recruitment of new Partner Seema Sukumar who will be joined by additional Partners and their teams at a later date.

Seema brings a wealth of experience in VC/PE and M&A. A specialist in FinTech and other Tech Media and Comms sectors, Seema has advised a number of domestic and international clients looking to expand abroad and in India. She was previously at J. Sagar for more than 11 years and made Partner in 2013.

Simon Beswick, International CEO at Osborne Clarke, commented: “We’ve been advising Indian businesses in Europe for a number of years and more recently businesses in India since starting our close working relationship with BTG Legal in 2014. Their expansion in Bangalore means we now have access to more practical and commercial support for our clients and prospects on the ground in a market that is very important to them.”

Prashant Mara, Managing Partner BTG Legal, commented: “Opening in Bangalore is a strategic move for our business towards becoming a national firm.  We can now service clients in key cities covering business hubs in the west and south of India.”

In addition to firm’s close working relationship with BTG Legal in Mumbai and now Bangalore, Osborne Clarke has offices across Asia that include Shanghai-based firm, Zhang Yu & Partners, an association with OC Queen Street in Singapore and an association with Koh Vass & Co in Hong Kong.
