Osborne Clarke advises DAL on financing a section of Germany’s currently largest battery storage facility for Münch Energie

Published on 5th February 2026

Osborne Clarke has provided legal advice to DAL Deutsche Anlagen-Leasing (DAL) on the structuring and financing of a battery storage facility developed by Münch Energie.

The stand-alone large-scale storage facility is being built in Saxony-Anhalt and, in its current expansion stage, has an output of 100 MW and a storage capacity of 200 MWh. Even with this construction phase, the project ranks among the largest battery storage facilities currently under construction in Germany; in the longer term, an expansion to a total of 400 MW / 800 MWh is planned.

The financed construction phase consists of two units of 50 MW / 100 MWh each and forms part of a multi-stage expansion concept by Münch Energie, one of Germany’s largest decentralised energy suppliers. Commissioning of the now financed sub-project is scheduled for spring 2026. Once completed, the storage facility is intended to be capable of providing two hours of energy for around 200,000 households, thereby making a significant contribution to grid stability and regional security of supply.

“With tailored financing solutions, we support the pioneers of the energy transition in implementing these complex investment projects,” says Dr Peer Günzel, Managing Director of DAL Deutsche Anlagen-Leasing. “Osborne Clarke once again supported us with highly solution-oriented, market- and technology-specific advice and helped to develop a robust structure for this complex large-scale storage project.”

Osborne Clarke comprehensively advised DAL/Deutsche Leasing Finance (DLF) on the financing and energy law aspects of the transaction. This included, in particular, structuring the finance documentation, assessing the legal aspects of the revenue and marketing mechanisms for the battery storage facility, and analysing the regulatory requirements applicable to stand-alone large-scale storage facilities in Germany.

The Osborne Clarke team that advised DAL/DLF under the joint lead of Dr Thies Goldner (lead partner Project Finance), Dr Daniel Breuer (lead partner Due Diligence) and Dr Marleen Rheker (co-lead Due Diligence) consisted of Olexiy Oleshchuk and Arsen Dutka (Project Finance), Bineta Diambang and Friedrich Polzin (both Real Estate), Dr Maria Batyreva (Project Contracts), Tim Schultze (Permits), Rahel Brockmann (Grid/Offtake), Anne Müller (Corporate) and Konrad Teßmar (Legal Project Management).
