Jan-Willem is a Senior Associate based in Cologne and a German patent litigator with several years’ experience as an IP lawyer. He focuses on life sciences patent litigation and intellectual property disputes. He has acted for both innovator and generic pharmaceutical companies in infringement and nullity proceedings and coordinating cross‑border patent disputes. In addition, Jan-Willem has many years of experience in advising on regulatory pharmaceutical matters.

Moreover, he has handled EV battery‑related patent matters, freedom‑to‑operate analyses, IP due diligence for VC‑backed transactions and the drafting of licence and trade secret agreements. In addition, he advises on legal tech for IP, helping clients design and implement tools that make portfolio management and litigation more efficient.

Internationally, Jan-Willem regularly speaks at patent law conferences, judges the Oxford IP Moot and hosts his own podcast with leading IP experts, IP Talks. He continues to support pro bono work through the law clinic "Pro Bono Heidelberg", which he founded as a student.
