UK Knowledge Collection | Building safety claims, and fake reviews and endorsements
Published on 19th September 2025
Welcome to this week's Knowledge Collection

The Building Safety Act Working Group has proposed updates to the Technology and Construction Court Guide, intended to address issues caused by proceedings being brought under the Act in different courts. This can cause practical difficulties (including the risk of conflicting factual findings) and uncertainty for the parties involved. The amendments are still to be finalised, and our Insight sets out what the impact may be of the mooted changes. Our "Future of Infrastructure" event in London takes place next week, exploring how the industry has reacted as it prepares to deliver an ambitious programme of projects.
New guidance in respect of fake reviews and endorsements has been published by the Competition and Markets Authority for online review sites, and updated guides for platforms, brands and agencies, and content creators and influencers. The CMA recently conducted an online sweep of a number of businesses to assess compliance with new prohibitions relating to fake reviews. It concluded that almost half were not complying. Our Insight considers the new and updated guidance, and the steps that businesses should take to reduce their risk (the CMA has powers to impose significant fines).
Our compliance webinar series continues, with a webinar next week on the EU's AI Act implementation phases and, later in the month, on the UK Data (Use and Access) Act which was enacted in June. Our global compliance experts set out tips for compliance teams on effective risk management, including preparing for an investigation.
