Digitalisation | Being ready for the regulation of Artificial Intelligence

We're delighted to welcome two guest panellists for our forthcoming discussion of the regulation of AI and how to be prepared for it:

  • Lord Clement-Jones CBE, Member of the UK House of Lords, co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on AI, and LibDem House of Lords Spokesperson for Digital; and
  • Patricia Shaw, CEO and founder of Beyond Reach, Chair of the Society For Computers and Law, Director of Women Leading in AI, and AI ethics advisor to the IEEE CertificAIEd Program.

Following extensive debate about the ethics and governance of artificial intelligence, legislators are focused on regulating this complex, transformative and all-pervasive technology. The European Union's "AI Act" legislative proposals are among the most advanced, while the UK is still in policy-formation mode, with a delayed White Paper expected later this year.

In this session, we will look at the proposed EU framework for regulating AI and the likely timeframe for implementation and compliance. We will also review the position and likely next steps in the UK. Most importantly, we will discuss the impact of the coming regulatory landscape on businesses developing, supplying and using AI.
