Julian is a Senior Associate (Australian Qualified) in the Environment Team at Osborne Clarke.  He advises clients on all aspects of environment, energy, infrastructure and resources law.

Julian assists clients in a broad range of matters including project, compliance and transaction coordination and support in the energy and resources, property development, infrastructure delivery and industrial operation industries.  He specialises in environmental due diligence in large scale corporate and property transactions.  In addition, Julian works alongside the Planning Team at Osborne Clarke on DCO and CPO matters and regularly advises his client's boards on ESG matters, including in relation to carbon trading, emission reporting regulations and biodiversity net gain requirements.

Formula 1 Racing Team

Advised a Formula 1 racing team on potential environmental liability in relation to a sewage discharge on an adjacent property to their headquarters.  

Aquind Interconnector DCO

Advised the key land interest holder in the AQUIND Interconnector DCO application, which lead to a refusal of the DCO on 22 January 2022.  


Lead transaction support for Lendlease, including by providing vendor side due diligence for the corporate restructure and part sale of its AU$1.7 billion Australian retirement village portfolio.  

Amey Keolis

Advised Amey Keolis on environmental liability gaps in the transaction structure for the CVL Transformation Project (part of the Welsh Government's rail infrastructure) and environmental liability in relation to key leases and licences for the project.  

Anglo American

Advised Anglo American (Australian Entity) on:

  1. numerous expansion projects for coal mines including the expansion of the various mines;
  2. pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for various mining projects; and
  3. compliance and operational issues including damage to a key road resulting from on-site blasting, vegetation clearing issues and construction of on-site and off-site infrastructure.  
Transport for Wales

Lead transaction support for Transport for Wales on the share sale acquisition of Pullman Rail Ltd, a large scale rolling stock maintenance company.  

AMP Capital

Advised AMP Capital on the AU$250 million purchase of the ‘Gasworks’ mixed-use development and the AU$800 million purchase of the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.
