Joe is a Senior Associate in the banking and finance team, with broad experience in general corporate lending, specialty finance and real estate finance, as well as acting for other financial institutions, private equity sponsors, investors, and borrowers.

Corporate lending

Joe acts for banks and borrowers in respect of general corporate lending, with involvement in the tech, media and communications sector, energy and utilities sector and the financial services sector. Joe's experience includes a broad range of financings, both syndicated and bilateral, including acquisition financings, working capital and revolving credit facilities and term facilities. Joe also has experience of leveraged finance transactions, having acted for financial sponsors, borrowers and banks in in a range of primary and secondary buy-out transactions.

Specialty finance

Joe advises on structured transactions in the specialty finance arena, including borrowing base facilities, warehouse structures for SPVs, loan portfolio sales, forward flow arrangements and servicing arrangements. Joe has experience across a range of sectors, including embedded finance, SME lending, asset finance, consumer loans, debt purchase and non-performing loans. Recent experience includes advising on Abound's £500m funding to accelerate growth of its origination of affordable consumer loans.

Real estate finance

Joe advises clearing banks, debt funds and alternative lenders on all aspects of real estate debt financing, including investment finance, development finance, land consortiums and joint ventures, refinancings, and restructurings at all levels of the capital structure. Joe's experience spans asset classes including hotels, student accommodation, serviced offices, holiday parks and multi-unit PRS and residential developments. Notably, Joe has experience of acting for the arranger in a listed bond placement and subsequent tap issue funding the acquisition and restructure of a large student accommodation portfolio.

I have a particular focus on, and passion for, fintech and the role it has played in the development of alternative financing solutions. I've been involved in the growth of embedded finance products and the incorporation of Open Banking and AI in consumer lending products, helping to lead the evolution and availability of alternative finance solutions through fintech platforms. Frictionless finance is becoming more and more prevalent and Osborne Clarke are well versed in helping finance providers scale in order to meet the increasing demand for these products.
