UK Knowledge Collection | Property sector and sanctions compliance, self-reporting corporate crime, and Martyn's Law
Published on 2nd May 2025
Welcome to this week's Knowledge Collection

The Office for Financial Sanctions Implementation's most recent threat assessment report focused on the property sector and related services. It expressed significant concerns about financial sanctions compliance across the sector, which should anticipate additional scrutiny and, potentially, enforcement action in the near future. New reporting obligations, particularly affecting letting agents, will come into force on 14 May.
The Serious Fraud Office has published new guidance stating that where a corporate promptly self-reports any suspected wrongdoing and cooperates fully in investigations, it can expect to be able to negotiate a deferred prosecution agreement, avoiding prosecution, other than in exceptional circumstances. Our Insight looks in more detail at the implications for businesses.
Martyn's Law, intended to better protect the public from terrorist attacks, introduces new counter-terror duties for those in control of certain premises or events. It was enacted in April and provides a two-year implementation period for businesses to prepare.
Our monthly Regulatory Outlook provides a summary of what's coming up in a variety of business compliance areas: sanctions, bribery, fraud and anti-money laundering, and health and safety being three of them. And our Eating Compliance for Breakfast series includes a webinar on 22 May on how to conduct a country compliance risk assessment for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing compliance purposes.
