In celebration of International Women's Day and also 100 years of women in law, Lubna Shuja came to speak to Osborne Clarke about her experiences. Lubna is the first Asian, first Muslim and seventh female president of the Law Society of England and Wales.

Managing partner Conrad Davies and partner Caroline Saul opened the event by highlighting the importance of diversity within Osborne Clarke, together with the firm's plans around reaching 30% female partnership and 6% ethnic minorities by 2025. Lubna then went on to explain how far we have come since she started out in her career in law – when her firm didn't allow women to wear trousers!

Other top tips included the importance of allies in career progression as well as tackling imposter syndrome by being as prepared as you can. The Law Society is involved in a myriad of projects to improve diversity, both domestic and international, with great importance being put on firms implementing effective hybrid working. There were questions around issues in business support as well as flexible working, with Lubna also emphasising how integral educating clients are about our firm's culture.

Overall it was a fantastic insight into the work of the Law Society, with Lubna really bringing to life how different backgrounds and experience are integral to the success of law for the future.
