Osborne Clarke advises Octopus Energy Generation on European growth joint venture with Energiequelle
Published on 5th March 2026
Octopus Energy Generation, the generation arm of Octopus Energy, and German renewable energy developer Energiequelle have launched OQTO-X, a new joint venture focused on bespoke on-site energy solutions for businesses across Europe. Osborne Clarke has supported Octopus Energy Generation on the legal structuring and implementation of the joint venture.
Driving decarbonisation at the factory gate
OQTO-X targets commercial and industrial (C&I) companies in Germany, Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic, providing integrated solutions for on-site solar power generation, large-scale battery storage and intelligent energy management. The offering enables businesses to reduce energy costs and significantly cut CO₂ emissions at their own sites. Through the Sky Fund (ORI SCSp) managed by Octopus Energy Generation, around EUR 200 million is expected to be deployed across several European markets by 2030 to support this growth. Energiequelle contributes an extensive project pipeline of more than 1.7 GW, alongside decades of experience in developing, delivering and operating renewable energy projects. OQTO-X combines expertise to supply companies directly with locally generated green electricity and storage-based solutions – for electrification, maximum control over consumption and supply, and genuine, locally produced clean energy.
Creating a scalable European C&I platform
Osborne Clarke’s advice focused on the corporate set-up of the joint venture, the structuring of project-level cooperation arrangements and competition law aspects in a cross-border C&I environment. On this basis, the partners have established a solid legal platform for scaling their business model across multiple European markets, drawing on Osborne Clarke’s long-standing sector and transaction experience in the energy and infrastructure space.
