At this year’s JUVE Awards ceremony at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Osborne Clarke was named ‘Law Firm of the Year for Regulation’ and ‘Law Firm of the Year for Energy Law’.
The awards recognise the leading work of Osborne Clarke’s Energy and Life Sciences & Healthcare teams.
In the energy sector, the firm supports clients along the entire transformation chain of the energy transition – on regulatory matters, in M&A transactions and in financings for key energy and infrastructure assets, in particular battery storage, e-mobility, photovoltaics, heat and hydrogen.
In Life Sciences & Healthcare, the jury highlights the dynamic development of the practice in a highly regulated environment, particularly in technology partnerships, licensing collaborations and IP licence agreements for innovative companies in the pharma and biotech sectors. This positive development is also reflected in this year’s JUVE rankings in the areas of ‘pharmaceutical and medical devices law’ and ‘pharmaceutical law: transactions’.
The JUVE jury’s reasoning for Regulation: ‘In the energy sector, Osborne Clarke is setting benchmarks. Through targeted expansion, Daniel Breuer and Christoph Torwegge have propelled the energy law practice to a new level. With their particular specialism in battery storage projects, they impress developers, investors and banks. The firm is now transferring this successful model to the healthcare sector as well. With its deep know-how in technology partnerships and licensing collaborations, it impresses innovative companies in the pharma and biotech industries. One client praises: “The team succeeds in reconciling complex legal requirements with the practical needs of fast-growing companies.”’
On energy law, the JUVE jury adds: ‘Osborne Clarke has delivered a masterpiece in the energy sector: through targeted expansion, the firm has built a team that has now succeeded in bringing its staffing strength to bear and is among the front-runners on the side of investors, developers and even banks. Above all, the specialisation in battery storage projects sets Osborne Clarke apart from other firms and makes it a valuable partner for innovative companies. With its current line-up, the team is heading for the top of the market.’
Dr Daniel Breuer, Head of the Energy & Energy Transition sector at Osborne Clarke, adds: ‘It is precisely in battery storage, renewables and hydrogen projects that the close interplay of regulation, technology and capital — and the impact it can have — becomes apparent. We shape these interfaces with our team across all project phases, transactions and financings and thereby contribute to the economy’s energy transition — pragmatic, forward-looking and solution-oriented.’
‘We are absolutely delighted with this recognition, which reflects our strongly increased presence in the healthcare sector,’ says Dr Andrea Schmoll, Head of the German Life Sciences & Healthcare sector and Co-Chair of Osborne Clarke’s international Life Sciences & Healthcare group. ‘We combine strategic regulatory expertise with transactional experience and translate it into practical, legally robust and economically viable solutions.’
The awards are based on the editorial research for the JUVE Handbook of Commercial Law Firms, which is published annually and is based on interviews with companies, law firms and the judiciary.
