On 23 March 2026, at House of Lords Report stage, nine new clauses were added to the Bill to "allow the Government to defund the existing [Atomic Weapons Establishment DB] scheme and establish a new central government pension scheme for its members."
This measure was "announced by the Chancellor in her 2025 Budget, but the principle was announced by the previous Government in a Written Ministerial Statement on 6 July 2022."
These provisions now make up sections 112 to 120 of the Pension Schemes Act 2026.
Sections 112 to 120 took effect on 29 April 2026, the date the Act received Royal Assent, but consist largely of powers to make regulations.
