On 23 March 2026, at House of Lords Report stage, nine new clauses were added to the Pension Schemes Bill to "allow the Government to defund the existing [Atomic Weapons Establishment DB] scheme and establish a new central government pension scheme for its members."
This measure was "announced by the Chancellor in her 2025 Budget, but the principle was announced by the previous Government in a Written Ministerial Statement on 6 July 2022."
