Osborne Clarke strengthens Energy Finance practice in Cologne with Gabriela von Wietersheim from DLA Piper

Published on 1st December 2025

Osborne Clarke is continuing to expand its Energy-Finance area: Gabriela von Wietersheim will join the Cologne office as a Partner on 1 December 2025 and will strengthen the Energy service line. With her many years of experience in project finance in the field of renewable energy as well as in complex, cross-border transactions, she expands the firm’s advisory expertise in a dynamically growing market.

The energy transition needs capital: renewable-energy transformation projects such as wind and PV installations, battery storage, hydrogen and electromobility require robust, scalable financing solutions and reliable structuring – particularly in the context of highly regulated markets. Project financings in this context are demanding, multi-faceted and call for precise expertise at the intersection of regulation, bankability and energy law. This is precisely where Osborne Clarke is focusing and reinforcing its capabilities in a targeted manner.

“The increasing complexity of projects and transactions in the energy sector requires experienced consultants who combine technology, regulation and financing to create viable solutions. In Gabriela von Wietersheim, we are gaining a recognised expert with broad European project experience and an excellent track record in onshore and offshore wind as well as photovoltaics,” says Dr Daniel Breuer, Head of the Energy service line at Osborne Clarke. “This sharpens our profile and further expands our advisory capabilities for the financing of energy and transformation projects on both the financier and borrower sides.”

For many years, Gabriela von Wietersheim has advised banks, financial institutions, investors and companies across the entire project lifecycle – from development through construction and operation to refinancings and restructurings, including KfW financings. Most recently, at DLA Piper, she advised on one of the largest German onshore wind projects in Germany as well as on several onshore wind and PV projects in Northern and Southern Europe. She is particularly experienced in drafting and negotiating loan, consortium and security agreements in international settings. Her finance-law expertise is an ideal fit with Osborne Clarke’s cross-sector advisory approach – and with the close interlinkage between Energy, Finance and transformation projects.

With her, the Energy practice group grows to a total of seven partners.
