International law firm Osborne Clarke has appointed Sunjay Malhotra as a Corporate Partner in its London office, further strengthening its UK corporate practice with a focus on high growth businesses and their investors.
Sunjay joins from Pinsent Masons, where he spent six years advising UK and international companies, investors, and investment banks. His practice focuses on venture capital financings and equity capital markets, advising both investors and emerging companies, while he also has extensive experience in public M&A and corporate governance. His experience spans the life sciences and technology sectors, with a particular focus on high-growth businesses navigating the transition from private to public markets.
A particular area of specialism for Sunjay is his work with university-affiliated investment vehicles. Sunjay advises on their establishment, agreements with academic institutions, and private capital fundraising from institutional investors. He subsequently guides the investment of these funds into IP-rich spin-out companies.
Sunjay’s arrival follows a series of recent senior hires into Osborne Clarke’s UK corporate practice, including Richard Porter, Matthew Edwards and the progression of William Nicolson to Partner, as the firm continues to invest in its corporate capability in response to increasing client demand across the life sciences and technology sectors.
His appointment reflects sustained demand from life sciences and technology clients for advice on venture capital transactions, public M&A, IPOs (on both the Main Market and AIM) and secondary fundraisings, as companies seek to access capital, scale internationally and operate with confidence across public and private markets.
"The next phase of growth in the UK’s life sciences and technology sectors will be driven by businesses that can access capital efficiently, scale quickly and navigate increasingly complex public and private markets. Sunjay’s impressive track record advising companies at these critical moments strengthens our ability to support clients throughout their growth journey and reinforces our commitment to building a market-leading corporate practice.”
Commenting on his appointment, Sunjay Malhotra said:
"Osborne Clarke has built a corporate practice that is deeply embedded in the sectors shaping the future economy. The firm’s work with high-growth businesses, investors and universities strongly aligns with my own experience advising innovative companies as they scale and access capital. I look forward to working with clients and colleagues to support businesses at pivotal stages of growth, from venture-backed expansion through to public markets and strategic transactions."
