Sara Barona

Sara is a Counsel in Osborne Clarke's Corporate team. She is an expert in M&A transactions, venture capital, private equity, and corporate restructuring.

Sara has broad experience advising local and international investors, companies and management teams across multiple sectors, particularly TMT and Life Science. She also has extensive experience drafting and negotiating commercial and corporate agreements. Alongside her role at OC she also serves as secretary and vice-secretary to the boards of directors of several companies.

She is one of the few non-partner lawyers ranked by Chambers & Partners Europe in the Venture Capital category. First recognised as an "Associate to Watch" in 2023 - described as "an associate to watch who enters the venture capital ranking this year due to market support" - she was promoted to "Up and Coming" in 2024 and then elevated to Band 4 in 2025, consolidating her position among the leading venture capital lawyers in Spain. Since 2020, she has also been recognised as a leading Spanish lawyer by the international directory Best Lawyers and, together with her venture capital team, she has been ranked by Legal 500 in the 2025 edition.

As a sought-after speaker and legal mentor, Sara is actively engaged in the Spanish and European entrepreneurial and investment ecosystems. For the past three years she has been a regular speaker at Foro Societario Aranzadi, a prestigious corporate law forum organised by a judge of the Provincial Court of Barcelona (Audiencia Provincial). She is also a prominent speaker in the Supernovas: Raising Stars programme, a training programme for investment fund analysts organised in collaboration with Backfund and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), where she provides expert legal guidance to the next generation of fund professionals. 

Since 2018, she has contributed to the CleanTech Camp programme, an incubator organised by InnoEnergy to support the creation of cleantech startups, as well as to Impulsa-Llavor, a legal training programme focused on venture capital in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She has also provided legal training to the Business Angels School of Girona (BAGI).

Sara is a member of Women Angels for STEAM (WA4STEAM), a growing international community of female angel investors committed to increasing women’s entrepreneurial presence in the STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

She joined Osborne Clarke in June 2012. Before joining Osborne Clarke, she worked as a corporate lawyer at Garrigues Abogados y Asesores Tributarios. She holds dual degrees in Law and Economics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2007) and completed a two-year corporate law programme at the Garrigues Study Centre (Centro de Estudios Garrigues) in collaboration with Harvard Law School. She is a member of the Barcelona Bar Association.
