UK Knowledge Collection | Student landlords, the Budget and pensions, and AI and data

Published on 21st November 2025

Welcome to this week's Knowledge Collection

Flat facade in the sunshine

The Renters' Rights Act, which received royal assent last month, significantly overhauls the regulatory regime for the private rental sector. It has a particular impact on the student accommodation market, as landlords for students in purpose-built blocks are subject to different rules than those with students in houses of multiple occupation and in other property types. Our Insight looks at the new rules, their commercial implications, and at how landlords can prepare.

The much-anticipated Autumn Budget will take place on Wednesday. Our pensions team will be hosting a webinar focusing on what the chancellor's announcements could mean in practice for trustees and employers.

Next week, our data experts will discuss the relationship between AI and cyber security practices, including contractual considerations for businesses, and  next month the team will report AI-related highlights from regulators and legislators, following the ICO's Data Protection Practitioners' Conference and IAPP Europe Congress. Our GDPR for HR update this month also considers AI, and the barriers to its adoption in the workplace.
