The Data (Use and Access) Act, which amends UK GDPR, has now received royal assent (after a contentious ping pong process through Parliament). Our Regulatory Outlook examines some of the new Act's more interesting provisions, and changes that were made from the original bill.

Earlier this month, the Civil Justice Council published its final report of its review of litigation funding. It makes 58 recommendations for reform, including to introduce legislation to reverse the effects of the Supreme Court's decision in PACCAR: to make clear that litigation funding is not a form of damages-based agreement (and thus unenforceable), nor a form of claims management serviceOur Insight looks in more detail at the recommendations, and how they may be taken forward.

The government's industrial strategy, published this week, identifies eight high-growth sectors within which are "frontier industries" that create "strategically important technologies and services deployed across the economy". In the digital and technologies sector plan, engineering biology is one of the six frontier industries listed. Our Insight looks at how the government intends to boost the industry.
