Osborne Clarke advises on 6 O’clock Gin acquisition by Ellers Farm Distillery

Published on 15th August 2025

International legal practice Osborne Clarke has advised the shareholders of Bramley & Gage on the acquisition of the company by Ellers Farm Distillery, which is co-owned by comedian Ricky Gervais. This acquisition further expands Ellers Farm’s premium spirits offering by securing full ownership of Bristol-based gin brand 6 O’clock Gin.

Ellers Farm Distillery is an award-winning distillery based in North Yorkshire, with brands including Dutch Barn Vodka and Y-Gin.

Bramley & Gage has been making spirits and liqueurs for over 20 years. Known for its smooth taste and its distinctive ‘Bristol blue glass’ bottles, 6 O’clock Gin is a range of artisanal gins, distilled in Bristol.

“I love what we’re building at Ellers Farm. The ambition to take great British spirits to the world is one of the reasons I got involved. We’ve got Dutch Barn Vodka, Y-Gin, a single malt whisky on the way, and now 6 O’clock. Which is a good time to start drinking. PM, that is.”

The Osborne Clarke team was led by corporate partner James Taylor, supported by associate Chris Flach and solicitor apprentice Liana Lowne.

"This transaction marks an exciting milestone in the future growth of this premium brand. It was a pleasure to deliver a successful outcome for the shareholders of Bramley & Gage and look forward to seeing its continued growth and expansion."
