International legal practice Osborne Clarke has advised Barratt Developments on 50:50 joint venture (JV) with Swindon Borough Council to develop approximately 250 hectares at Wichelstowe, South of Swindon. The scheme will deliver around 2,670 new homes over the next 20 years and includes two primary schools, a secondary school and an extensive area of open space.

Swindon Borough Council will be contributing the land and the infrastructure already in place and Barratt, through its main trading company, BDW Trading Limited, will fund 100% of the remaining site-wide primary infrastructure, including a portion of affordable housing. Barratt will deliver serviced parcels for development in five phases and is also the exclusive provider of the development and management services for the site.

Barratt Developments is a long standing and valued client of key client Partner David Powell.  Osborne Clarke has advised the client on a number of recent matters including a planning application for the Nestlé regeneration site in London and the completion of the ground-breaking first development scheme to access the new Sutton District Energy Network.

Osborne Clarke’s Head of Real Estate and Infrastructure, Conrad Davies, headed up the team alongside David Powell and they were supported by Simon Hancock, Hannah Vanstone, Sarah Knight and Helen Jeans.

Osborne Clarke is a recognised industry leader in real estate providing a comprehensive lifecycle service and advising major real estate industry organisations, ranging from developers and investors to property funds and corporate occupiers.
