A partner since 2008, Umberto has 25 years’ experience in various international law firms, during which he has acquired specific expertise advising clients in extraordinary finance transactions (M&A, private equity and equity/debt capital market) and he has gained solid expertise in financial regulation in particular as far as regards alternative forms of finance and fin-tech.
He advises both Italian and foreign clients including multinationals, financial institutions and investment funds both in extraordinary transactions. He has also developed specific expertise on the area of payments systems and alternative finance in the ambit of which he advises equity and lending crowdfunding platforms, payment institutions, electronic money issuer and Fintech players.
Since 2013 Umberto has been Financial services sector head for Osborne Clarke’s Italian offices and in 2016 he was appointed as head of Osborne Clarke International’s Alternative Finance group. Since 2014 Umberto has represented Italy as one of 40 members of the European Crowdfunding Stakeholders Forum, a group of European experts selected by the European Commission to advise and provide legal advice to the Directorate General “Internal Market”.
In 2017 Umberto was appointed to the Technical Committee for Credit & Finance of Assolombarda, as Head of the Alternative Finance and Capital Market Union sectors.
Umberto also sits on the Technical Committee of APSP (Associazione dei Prestatori dei Servizi di Pagamento – the Italian Payment service providers association) with the task of following the development of the financial service regulations.
He regularly speaks at leading industry conferences and in both 2019 and 2020 provided training to the Italian Finance Police School on matters related to PSD2, antimony laundering and Fintech regulations.
Umberto is the author of over 50 publications on alternative financing and two books:
