Ian is based in Osborne Clarke’s London office and advises clients on non-contentious commercial, technology and privacy matters. He coordinates the firm’s international blockchain practice and focuses particularly on high value, large scale, complex outsourcing and fintech deals.

Ian works on domestic and cross-border arrangements, including outsourcing transactions, e-commerce, agency and distribution, data protection and privacy issues. He has spent time in Osborne Clarke’s Silicon Valley offices, helping US clients with their expansion into Europe and with changes in European data privacy law. He continues to advise clients on their international operations, in particular assisting with European reseller arrangements and managing large-scale multi-jurisdictional legal projects.

Ian has undertaken a number of secondments, on each occasion working as part of a commercial in-house legal team delivering pragmatic advice to key business stakeholders. His work on secondment has involved assisting Vodafone with distribution arrangements and regulatory compliance, News UK with GDPR compliance, and Heathrow Airport with high value, regulated procurement contracts, amongst others.

Much of Ian’s work involves assisting clients in the financial services and tech, media and comms sectors. He frequently speaks and writes about blockchain/distributed ledger technology and international expansion. He is recommended in the Legal 500 directory for IT and commercial contracts.

Ian qualified in 2011 and joined Osborne Clarke in 2013.
