This 4-year Apprenticeship is a Level 6 programme in which you will gain a BSc (Hons) in Cyber Security from the University of the West of England (UWE). You will gain valuable experience that will enhance your commercial understanding and grow your confidence in a work environment; all whilst earning a salary and paying no tuition fees.

Our IT team is at the heart of the business. It is made up of over 50 people, all of whom have a passion for delivering technology into Osborne Clarke. The department as a whole is broken into a number of smaller teams, including IT Security, Projects and Programmes, ServiceDesk, Applications and Networks.

What is the IT Degree Apprenticeship? 

During the apprenticeship programme you will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of working in the IT Operations and Cyber Security team at Osborne Clarke, with a specific focus on security systems and controls. It is likely that you will spend time in parts of the wider IT and Risk and Compliance teams to help you gain a wider understanding of the regulations and challenges facing an international legal practice. The structure of the programme allows you to enhance your understanding and grow your confidence in a work environment, and is the ideal opportunity to benefit from an exciting new world of work and study while avoiding the costs usually associated with undertaking a degree.

What is the degree programme?

The Cyber Security BSc (Hons) programme is taught by UWE Bristol and Gloucestershire College lecturers. You'll study the apprenticeship on block release, spending one week per month (and two weeks in September and June) studying on site at Gloucestershire College. The apprenticeship study will cover the following core areas: Foundations of cyber security, Network foundations, Information management, Computer architecture, Operating system principles, Legal, regulatory, compliance and standards, Algorithm and program design, and Malware, threats and defensive programming.

How will I be supported?

You will receive support and guidance from us throughout your whole apprenticeship. This will come in the form of a dedicated line manager and mentor in each of the teams you work with, to help you make the most of your role. You will also be buddied with one of our current IT Degree Apprentices to help you settle into life at Osborne Clarke. This is underpinned by our award-winning HR and career development programme. You will also benefit from a dedicated Course Assessor at Gloucestershire College to guide you through the apprenticeship. They will meet with you when you attend face-to-face teaching sessions, and will assist you with compilation of your portfolio of workplace evidence and help you to identify how that evidence links to the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by the solicitor apprenticeship standard.

What will I be paid?

The starting salary for this Apprenticeship will be £20,000 p.a. increasing each year as you progress through the programme. In your final year you can expect to be paid closer to £25,000 p.a.

What is Osborne Clarke looking for in an IT Apprentice?

In order to be eligible for this Apprenticeship you must have a minimum of: Three A Levels (or equivalent) at grade B, preferably in subjects such as IT or Maths, or a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at grade triple Distinction; and Grade C or 4 in GCSE English Language and Maths (or equivalent). In addition to these academic requirement we are looking for people with a real passion for IT with the ambition and commitment to learn and build a successful career in the technology sector..
