Welcome to this week's Knowledge Collection

The government has presented a bill that will overhaul the UK's cross-sector cyber security regulations. Our Insight looks at which entities will be newly in scope, their obligations, and how the updated regime contrasts with the EU's approach to reforming its network and information security rules, with NIS2.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has finalised its price transparency guidance under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 and updated its guidance on unfair commercial practices. It is now actively investigating pricing practices: its new enforcement powers means it can impose significant fines. In January, our regulatory team is hosting an event at our London office, featuring a panel of senior representatives from regulators including the CMA, on enforcement risk, and how businesses can build relationships with digital regulators in the UK.

Also related to enforcement risk, the Serious Fraud Office has published guidance on when, why and how it will evaluate corporate compliance programmes. Our Insight considers the impact on organisations of the regulator's approach.

Finally, our in-person media and entertainment law event, at our London office in January, will discuss the trends seen in 2025 and what's in store for 2026, including media consolidation and restructuring, ad monetisation of streaming, regulatory priorities, and recent cases on intellectual property rights and training generative AI tools.
