Berend is partner in The Built Environment team at Osborne Clarke Amsterdam.

He is an experienced lawyer in the field of commercial real estate, with a focus on acquisition and sale, lease and sale and lease back, and project development and construction. In addition, Berend regularly acts as counsel in litigation and (international) arbitration cases in the aforementioned areas.

Berend’s clients include Dutch and foreign fund and asset managers, project developers, contractors and government authorities.

Some examples of Berend’s recent projects are the redevelopment of WTC Amsterdam, the development and acquisition of WTC Utrecht, the acquisition of land mark retail centre Markthal Rotterdam, the construction of a bio diesel plant at the Rotterdam Maasvlakte, the acquisition of several logistic centres in The Netherlands and the legal asset management of a tier 1 Dutch office portfolio.

In 2004, Berend obtained his masters degree in civil and criminal cum laude. In addition, Berend completed the post-doctoral Grotius Immovable Property program. Prior to joining Osborne Clarke, Berend was a real estate lawyer at NautaDutilh and RechtStaete.

Berend has registered the following principal (and secondary) legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):
- Real Estate law
- Tenancy law

Based on this registration, he is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.
