The UK nuclear industry is undergoing fundamental change as nuclear generation facilities are reaching the end of their useful life.

Restructuring of the industry, power plant decommissioning, disposal of nuclear waste and change to the nuclear liabilities regime are just some of the key recent developments.  A new nuclear build programme also looks increasingly likely, as part of the UK's proposed energy mix and focus on sustainable energy.

Advising providers to and operators within this changing sector involves a depth of experience that covers a wide range of issues. We understand the complexities and can advise clients from first hand experience. Our active membership of the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) also ensures we know all the angles on issues affecting the industry.

We are members of the Tier 1 decommissioning working group of the NIA and have been included in making submissions to government on key nuclear issues affecting the Tier 1 bidders.  We are also members of the new build working group.

Our team's expertise covers all areas relevant to the nuclear industry, including:

  • Environment and nuclear waste;
  • Nuclear decommissioning and related PPP structures;
  • Nuclear new build;
  • Construction and disputes;
  • Mergers and acquisitions;
  • Banking and project finance;
  • Planning and property;
  • Health and Safety;
  • Procurement and competition;
  • Employment.
Examples of our recent experience include:
  • Advising a bidder on decommissioning contracts prepared by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in the UK;
  • Advising a major nuclear generation company on a variety of commercial matters related to its business;
  • Advising an international nuclear company on international uranium trading matters.
