Since the deregulation of the telecommunications industry, we have been advising new entrants, equipment suppliers, service providers and users on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues. All share one thing in common, the need to gain a secure foothold in a fiercely competitive and rapidly growing global marketplace.

Osborne Clarke is widely regarded as having a leading practice in the rapidly developing and converging telecommunications market sector. According to Chambers & Partners 2005, “competitors admitted the practice has a knack for achieving sparkling results."

We act for infrastructure companies, such as UbiNetics (a leading supplier of 3G mobile communications); fixed line operators, such as Impello plc; and mobile and MVNO operators (we advise Vodafone on a range of issues and have provided them with long-term seconded staff, including a ‘head of legal’ for 6 months).

We also have extensive experience in voice over IP (we act for Vonage – the world’s leader in telecoms over the internet) and advise many users procuring telecoms services (including advising UBM on agreements relating to the provision of voice and data communications and support services across its global group).

We advise on all aspects of telecommunications. Acting as an extension of your in-house team, we draft and negotiate contracts on all aspects of IT procurement, network build, OEM/reseller arrangements, outsourcing, network infrastructure/interconnection, managed network services, collocation, distribution channels, contact centres and service levels.

Our lawyers have extensive experience negotiating MVNO agreements and advising on the regulation of MVNOs. Our tailored regulatory update service TELEX enables in-house lawyers to stay abreast of the key legal changes and consultation processes which will affect their business in the future.

We have extensive experience of advising companies and leading venture capital houses on corporate structures and funding rounds. This includes strategic acquisitions (M&A) and flotations (IPOs) on the UK Stock Exchange, AiM and full lists.

We also handle disputes arising from customer agreements, for example, from failure to perform according to specification or limitation of liability issues.

Our telecoms team crosses borders and legal departments to provide our clients with a complete commercial service on a local, national and international basis. Our presence on the ground in the communications heartlands of Silicon Valley, Finland and Reading means that we are able to gain an unparalleled insight into these markets as they develop.

The strength of our resources, many of whom have worked in industry, is matched by our depth of industry knowledge enabling us to provide informed legal solutions and value added services to our clients.
