
James heads our non-contentious technology law team in our Bristol office.
He specialises in advising on technology, outsourcing and information law issues.
Examples of James' areas of expertise include guiding clients through offshore outsourcing projects, communications infrastructure arrangements, software license agreements, supply and procurement contracts, e-commerce business contracts, and advising on data protection and freedom of information issues.
In 1999 he co-wrote 'The Data Protection Act, Explained', subsequently published by the Stationery Office in three editions, one of the first authoritative guides to that Act. James remains one the UK's leading information law practitioners. He is an editor of the publication 'Data Protection Law & Policy', is a member of the panel of experts for the global privacy compliance website www.dataguidance.com and is also a member of the International Association of Privacy Practitioners (IAPP).
The Legal 500 and the Chambers & Partners Guide to the Legal Profession both identify James as a leading lawyer technology lawyer. Chambers also identifies him as one of the UK's leading data protection lawyers.
James trained at Osborne Clarke, qualified in September 1996 and became a partner in May 2001. He worked in our London office until 2004 when he moved to our Bristol office. He is an active member of Osborne Clarke's initiatives in India and represents a number of Indian technology and outsourcing companies.
