Ray's love of connecting with people has remained a constant throughout his long and vibrant career at Osborne Clarke. After eight years as our Managing Partner in the UK, he is now based in the US where he is supporting our US clients with their international strategy.

Ray is passionate about helping organisations to shape their future. When working with clients, Ray's approach is authentic and straightforward. He brings energy, creativity and an open mind. For him, listening is the foundation of the work we do and he is an advocate of looking at life from the client's perspective as a starting point for legal advice.

The years Ray spent in our senior leadership team gave him first-hand experience of what it takes for a business to succeed. He understands sustainable growth, the challenges of change and the importance of looking ahead.

Ray's career started in corporate law. During his 30-plus years as a lawyer, he acted on mergers and acquisitions, demergers, equity issues, joint ventures and corporate reorganisations. Much of his work was for clients in the technology, media and communications sector, with a significant number of cross-border deals throughout Europe, North America and Asia.

Diversity and inclusion are subjects close to Ray's heart, with a particular focus on social mobility. He is known for driving initiatives that make sure that every single person has the opportunity to succeed.

In 2022, Ray was awarded Management Partner of the Year at The Legal Business Awards and he was also recognised in The Lawyer's Hot 100 list. His commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion has been acknowledged by Management Today as an “Agent for Change" and an OUTStanding HERoes Top 40 Advocate Executive.

As a client I have known Ray Berg for 20 years. The attributes that meant I kept going back to him then are what I still see in him today: adaptability and pragmatism, an openness to new ideas and ways of doing business, and a refreshing lack of stuffiness; a clear-sighted commerciality, financial awareness and understanding of how business really ticks; a complete lack of pomposity – he wears his excellent intellect lightly.

Richard Allen, General Counsel and Company Secretary of Dialight

Helping you succeed in tomorrow's world

Osborne Clarke's three-dimensional strategy is about change. It responds to global mega-trends that are transforming the world and the way we do business. We know that things develop very quickly, so what you knew yesterday may not be relevant today.

My job is to facilitate our clients' growth, by helping their individual and corporate development, so they can meet the future with confidence. I do this by listening first because it's the only way to really understand how I can help. Every person and every business is different, and my approach is to nurture this. Feeling free to do it your way is so important; I truly believe that being bold and brave creates opportunity.
