Managing Personal Data in the Digital Economy

Published on 25th Jan 2018

The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) of Singapore launched a public consultation “Managing Personal Data in the Digital Economy” on the 27th of July 2017.

In adapting to technological advancements, the PDPC is proposing two main amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act:

– an Enhanced Framework for Collection, Use and Disclosure of Personal Data; and
– mandatory Data Breach Notification.

In view of the consultation, OC Queen Street held a roundtable that centred on the possible harmonisation of mandatory breach notifications from the perspectives of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the Cyber Security Agency (CSA) and the PDPC – as they relate to financial institutions. The roundtable gathered many general counsel and data protection personnel from major financial institutions and corporates. The response therefore took into consideration industry feedback as well.
