I’m head of the commercial practice group in the Thames Valley office, and I’m joint head of the firm’s intellectual property practice, focusing on the non-contentious side of IP. Most of my clients are in the digital business or energy and natural resources sectors, and whether I’m advising them on contracts, joint ventures, outsourcing or the development and exploitation of IP, I find myself using the “so what?” test a lot. You have to be pragmatic in this role, and I’m always asking myself “so what?” when I’m deciding whether or not to argue a point for them or investigate something further.
My clients include the likes of NPower, BG, 20C, Vodafone, Cambridge Display Technology, Leasedrive and Liquavista. I helped set up the firm’s Thames Valley office, and according to the legal directories, my clients appreciate the way I understand their objectives and define their risks.
I qualified as a lawyer in 1986 and joined Osborne Clarke as a partner in 1998. In my early career I spent time on secondment to Galileo, a computer reservations systems provider and recently I stood in as temporary General Counsel at Renesas, a semi-conductor manufacturer.
